Noisy seat motor
My passenger power seat motor (forward/backward) is ridiculously loud. When you press the button I get a really really loud droning noise....a little embarassing if I'm taking out a girl in my "nice Benz" and she wants to adjust the seat and WHAOAOAOAO! :D The drivers seat has just the normal little subdued hum, nothin wrong with it. Is the motor on the blink?? Any ideas?

I doubt if it's the motor. It is probably the cable for that one position going South.

Where is that cable and how would it be causing such a loud noise?
|
It's in the seat frame bottom, and the cable itself hollows out the plastic casing it is in.As the ID of the casing gets larger, it really makes a rapping noise. Also the casing will wear to a point where the cable is effectively too short, and the seat won't move.

I see....can it be replaced? How hard would that be? Where could I get this part? Thanks for the help.

Just pull the seat and it's right there. Part used to be about $30.00. Remember I'm diagnosing this by computer. It's kinda like calling a doctor and asking him what's causing the pain in your stomach. One can only guess without an exam.

Yeah, I understand. So I have to pull the whole seat to do this? Is there a way I can diagnose this by looking at it? What should I look for? Thanks again.
|
Yep, you gotta pull the seat. You could switch the cable with one of the others and see if the problem moves.

Seat Problem!

Thanks! Since my seat still moves, just is a lot louder, would you then say the cable is on the blink?
