W201 hood hinge questions

Hello gentlemen,
First of all, at the moment I am trying remove the hood from my 190E and I know it requires removing the nut and pin from each side. However, I am not exactly sure how to remove the pins and it is difficult to see how they are secured from the inside, even after consulting the manual. It does not help that the car is on stands so I cannot open the hood all the way due to the garage ceiling (which is why I want to remove the hood in the first place).

Second question; what does the tab with the spring on the driver side hood hinge do? I know on other Mercedes models there is a tab there which locks the hood in the upright position, but I am curious what the tab on the W201 hood hinge does. It seems pointless but I am sure it must serve some purpose.

Thank you for any input.

The tab with the spring is the release tab. If the hood is all the way up it automatically locks. You need to press the tab in order to unlock it.

Thanks, that is good to know, and I apologize for the embarrassing questions.
I guess I would have had a chance to figure that out if I was able to open the hood all the way instead of just trying to squeeze my head underneath. :)

For removing the pins, I am guessing I just need to remove the circlips from the inner side of the hood, and then the pins should come out with ease?
I found this picture, it helps knowing what the parts holding them in actually look like.

To get the hood all the way up, one needs to disconnect the hood prop shock.

It seems that the car I have never had the prop shock, or it has been removed previously.
