1999 SL500 soft top problems

FIXED:

The magnet detection switch was out of place. After I aligned it and made sure it works, top was operational. I cycled a few times to be sure and it's OK.

Hi guys, I have been battling with my soft top since I got the car. I tried suggestions over at bw, but didn't get anywhere. Klaus from Tophydraulics also never made it to my thread, I know he is very knowledgeable. What do you think:

124 Limit Signal switch illogical

I'm not at a fast connection to view the vid.

Limit SW illogical should be that the SW is open or closed when mechanically it should be in an opposite state.

RE: if the SW is at step 3 of a 10 step process and prior to step 3 the SW state is correct and after step 3 it has changed state, then logically the SW should not change state from step 4 through 10.

I'd look for mechanical damage of the SW actuator lever and electrically test the SW as well. If the test does not turn up a problem ,the top controller might be bad. ( it might be worth opening it up and looking for water damage / leaking capacitor. )

Pitch this on the SL section of this forum as well.

I was asking what is this switch exactly. The code doesn't tell me much. If you give me a part number, photo or anything I can check it. I just don't know which one it is.

I don't know this code specifically. The thread below calls it a RB ( roll Bar ) limit SW.

3) 114 Limit switches (S84/4) Soft top close
4) 124 RB faulty limit switch signal illogical
5) 122 limit switch (a83/1) roll bar stowed

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/322246-1997-sl500-convertible-top-operation.html

It also shows codes that this particular person has. By using their list and a full code list, by a process of elimination you should be able find all SW and verify 124 is for the roll bar.
