spongy Brakes at start-up..then firm !

92 300E 55,000 miles. Approx 50 % of the time my brakes at start - up are very soft, with a clicking noise in the centre counsel.. as I drive, and time passes, they firm up to normal.. If I let the car idle, they become firm quicker...aprox 3 to 5 mins. Any idea`s... my fluid level is up...but hasn`t been changed for about 2 years.

Well you should definately consider a fluid change and full brake bleeding.

I suspect you may have air in the system.

In any vehicle, if I ever had spongy brakes, it was due to air in the system.
