Can you hear the motor working inside the seatback? The driver side works on my 89 300E, but not the passenger. I have followed the owner's manual instructions for pulling the headrests out (hidden release button in seatback) thinking that maybe it could then reconnect, but can't pull either side.

I know this doesn't help you, but maybe someone else will help both of us. Good luck.

On the other hand, just like the first message says, "Use the Search."

I searched for "headrest" and came up with several good discussions on removing seatback panels in order to mess with the headrest mechanisms. I'll explore tomorrow.

Good luck.

DO NOT TAKE THE SEAT APART!!

I will check the seat adjustment switch first. You can take the switch apart and clean the contacts with sand paper and spray some WD-40 before you put it back together

Carefully pry the plastic trim around the switch off, then you will need a 10mm socket to remove the door handle bolt. The switch will come out but sliding it forward it towards the front. Remove a philips screw, the switch is snapped together. Be careful of the ball bearings, don't lose them!!

Good luck!
