Should be S and W.
Stands for Standard and Winter.
Starts off in 1st gear when set to Standard.
Starts off in second when set to Winter.
Brian.

On euro version MB vehicles, the S/E on the switch stands for Sport/Economy. On Sport mode, the tranny holds the shifts longer, and hence, fuel consumption is higher.

Rainmaker, like the mods. Can you tell me something about how you mounted the sub? I'm just thinking of mounting my Alpine Type-R 10" on the shelf, as long as I can keep it below the first aid-kit flap, and not noticeable from outside the car.. not like this pic!

I don't think I get it .
What is the difference ?
What makes starting in second gear in winter better ?

What does it do to fuel economy ?

Thanks

Starting in 2nd gear makes you less likely to wheelspin on slippery surface.

It must be pretty obvious, if you've tried using the switch, that in 'E' mode the car is very slow, and won't rev over 3000 rpm, and in 'S' mode it is much faster, and will rev to the redline??!
And then you can figure out that in the 'slow' mode (E) you will get much better fuel consumption..

later

On the Euro 190e the S/E stands for Standard and Economy.

The economy setting is ****e....it basically wont allow the car to pull away in 1st unless its floored, hence it stays in standard all the time, where little more than a light throttle will make it kickdown into 1st and pull away.

As for fuel consumption, identical in both settings...ask any 190 owner!
