antenna slippage '95 E300

Is it worth trying to re-seat the antenna for the '95 E300 or just disconnect the drive motor like I just did and use it extended permanently? It looks like a pain to work on behind that mini bulkhead. Does one fix that from the outside of the car or remove the unit and fix it that way?

repairing that antenna is a piece of cake,

remove the extended bit by unscrewing the nut and allowing the motor to extend it, once removed, - undo the carpet panels and remove the one nut holding the assembly in place and take it to the bench for repair.

I also make sure to oil the antenna mast after every wash, an oily rag is all that is required.

Ok so I took nut off and found that the plastic caterpillar track has snapped in 2 or more pieces. How does one replace that part? I'm assuming that the track can be bought here but the 'one nut' you talk about holding the drive motor in is the one on the fender or inside the trunk?

you can buy the plastic extension piece, there is a seller on ebay that sells just these - the replica piece is about 15 or 20 which would be a URO part, the original hirschmann piece is about 55 dollars. Make sure the one you buy is for your car, the 1995 uses a shorter antenna than the earlier models.

To remove the motor, remove the internal carpet finisher from the inside of the trunk and remove the fastener. It will have one wiring plug and one earthing strap.

Its also a good idea to get new insulator rubbers as the old ones will be hard and disturbing them will cause water leaks.
