The Blinker Connection??
Today I noticed something not cool at all. My left blinkers seem to be shorted with the reverse lights, and the brake lights.
I first noticed it when the left blinker in the dash starts glowing greenish (not fully lit, however very dimly lit) when I hit the brakes. When the car stops, brake depressed, and the left blinker is switched on, the blinker would blink a little slower than usual. Now when I put it in reverse, brakes depressed, the left blinker in the dash glows even brighter! almost fully lit. The problem goes away every now and then. Do I have shorted wires somewhere? Could it just be a fuse problem (wishful thinking ). I'm going to look at the fuses tomorrow. However, I think I'm looking at something bigger than that. Any ideas? Thanks -Holson- |
Holson, just do a quick check to make sure water hasn't found it's way into your light fitting.I've had that cause a similar fault on a Nissan before.Bear

It sounds like it could very likely be an earth problem.. try cleaning off the earths for your dash and lights

Trailer wiring???
Do you happen to have some kind of trailer wiring installed??? If you do then remove them completely and see.

I have seen this one over and over. The bulbs that go in the S are special, if you install the wrong ones, it will do what you are talking about. Have a Mercedes tech install the correct bulbs.

Donnie has an excellent point. Someone else posted recently about domestic brake light bulbs contributing to the failure of cruise control amplifiers. My cruise was toast, and the brake bulbs were Syl***ia from the PO. Nothing but OEM for the Frau from now on.

I will check the bulbs. However the problem just started yesterday. I don't know if it has anything to do with it. However I just replaced my sealed beams a few days ago (with Sylvania Sealed Beams) - They'll be replaced with the Bosch headlights these cars were meant to be equipped with. :D (euros) BTW, Alex, where do I look for the grounds you mention? and pentoman, no I don't think there's any water in the housing. Thanks a lot guys |
I solved it among with a few other problems too...
One of the bulbs is almost burnt out. It's some Taiwanese bulb (no offence) so I replaced that. The problem, I think lies in the left taillight cables. A few of the cables were exposed!!! yikes... so I just taped 'em and I haven't been able to repeat the problem... so all is good. Thanks! |
