W 126 Exhaust Upgrade
hey, ive got a 1988 126 with the 3.0 liter engine and i want to upgrade the exhaust system on it. Im looking for a little more power, but mainly i want that throaty mercedes sound. Do you guys have any ideas on what i should do?? remove resonator? What happens if i remove the cat? i was just thinking about heading down to tuffy and having them make me a custom setup but im not sure whats safe to replace/remove. any ideas/suggestions??

Don't forget the legal aspects.
You might consider adapting a performance exhaust system designed for a 300E. The best performance modification is to sell the SE and buy a 420SEL or 560SEL. Even a 300SDL will outrun a 300SE. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 81 300SD |

there is nothing wrong with the 300sel. I too would like to know of any exhaust upgrade for the 300sel. I like the inline 6 engine on the car and is not as cluttered as the 420+.

Who said anything was wrong with the 300SEL?
About the only thing sacred in the exhaust system is the oxygen sensor. If you replace the exhaust system, make a provision to reinstall it. In the same place will be nice so you don't have to futz with the wiring. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 81 300SD |

Removing the resonators won't do much since they are designed to remove annoying frequencies from the exhaust note. You'll get the most change from the muffler, such as a Remus or Magnaflow. Although with a 6-cyl, not sure what kind of growl that would be.
