new w124 neutral safety switch keeps failing?
 

Hello everyone so I just replaced the neutral safety switch 2 months ago and now occasionally especially on cold mornings the car won't start so I have to jack it up and wiggle the switch a little bit and then it works again for a while any ideas of the wiring the switch is new I just replace the bushings on the shifter I don't know if that may have thrown off the alignment of the switch any help would be appreciated thank you..

There is room for some free play at the bolt holes when you install the switch. That is so you can adjust it. Usually the center placement is ideal. Do you have it to far to front or back?

I'm going to check it out when I get back on their car because maybe with the new bushings in May of kind of pushed everything went to a different place where shouldn't be thank you I'll keep you posted

If you used an aftermarket switch, (i.e., Febi, etc.) trash it and get an original part form the dealer. Same thing happened to me years ago on my 124 and replacing with an original part solved the problem.

For some reason, ohmic switches (which I believe the NSS is :confused:) are not made well by aftermarket suppliers.

I've found that before you clamp down the two bolts to lock the NSS in place, you first should move the shifter into Neutral gear, then slide the NSS as far to the left as its oval shaped bolt eyes will allow. Then tighten both bolts and re-test by shifting into Park gear and make sure it starts as expected. Turn the car off. Shift into Neutral and make sure that it also starts there.

May be the bushing is worn .So no mater where you set the switch and lock it, its not in the same place after you select a gear and return it If you understand me .

Put shift lever in neutral and then put a 4 mm pin or drill trough the slot in shift lever and in a hole in the switch housing then tighten the bolt and secure the NSS in proper alignment.
Do not remember exactly but this is how you install the switch.

Did you use the alignment hole?
 

I just posted the procedure to properly align the NSS as a post script of my NSS install tips. According to an expert on the matter, improper alignment can lead to a short lived NSS.
