Did MB sell me the OEM floor mats??
 

I ordered a set of floor mats from local MB dealer for my 400E, when I picked them up I felt they were extremely light in weight, didn't feel like MB quality stuff.

When I unpacked them at home, I found them were not made of wool at all, just vinyl, the bottom is just some sort of thin foam, that's why they are so thin and light. I remember last time when I washed floor mats from my Volvo 850, they were so heavy that I could hardly hold them with one hand, now I can hang this set of MB mats with my little finger, they can actually fly in the wind. However they do have stars on them.

I paid $150 Cnd for these ($100 US), for those of you who bought OEM floor mats from MB, did you get the same things? I am trying to convince myself that they are made of some high tech stuff when I drive the car:(

Are you sure they're not some sort of "all-weather" mats or "winter mats" or something?

My OEM mats are "carpet-quality" fiber, matching the color of my carpet, with a stitched border, embroidered star in the corner of the front ones, and a heel pad on the drivers side, darker in color, with "Mercedes-Benz" embossed on it. The actual weight of them is still pretty light, but they are very well-made.

They may have ordered the wrong mats for you by mistake?...I'd definitely go back and ask.

The MB floormats are thinner than they were in the past. My father's original floormats in his '85 300D had worn out and for Christmas I bought him a set of new MB mats. The originals were twice as thick. With that though, I still think they are very good mats. The color match is dead on. When I bought a set for my TD, the color match was so perfect you couldn't tell they were replacement mats. BTW, my father's orignal mats didn't have the Mercedes star in the corners, which is a very nice touch.

Mikemover is correct...The mats he described are the EXACT ones that came with our cars...I also would take them back.:)

My floor mats are exactly the same as everyone has described, they do match nicely with the car, so I believe they are OEMs, they still look well made, but with that thickness and foam bottom, to me they just lack of old MB quality feel, maybe I just expected too much from MB.

I've found that Lloyd manufactures a handsome super premium model floor mat that is significantly heavier vs. the current MB floor mat, fit is perfect- front & rear, has rubber backing (no slip, no H20 problems), also comes with extra metal hook/clips for even more no slipping insurance, color is black & matches interior ('94 E500), also has heed pad for extra cushioning, no MB insignia's on mine- but I understand they can be custom applied ...the Lloyd mats appear to be made to last as long as the car - pricing was similar vs. MB mats

I have current MB floor mat's in my '94 E320 Coupe and they have worn well for the past 4 years, but appear to be made to last about 5 years with daily use.

fyi- I've also got a set of MB OE "all-weather" mats that I use between W124's as needed, and they appear to be made of military rubber to catch all H20 and dirt.... they are very inexpensive (less than $80 retail for the W124 /4 piece at any MB dealer and will definitely last longer than a W124)

Just bought new OEM mats for my '85 300SD. First thing I noticed was the reduced 'heftyness' of the new mats.

Color is perfect which was my PRIMARY concern. Fit is, of course, perfect too......they're just not quite as thick. :(

Most manufacturers Toyota most recently have had concerns of floor mats sliding forward and touching accelerator pedal. MB now provides anchors for retrofit of some floor mats.

Welcome to the "new" Mercedes Benz company.

Although the newer floor mats are OK, I think they do seem cheap compared to those supplied with the 1983 300D I bought new. It seems like sometime in the 1990's they changed the thickness of the OEM mats and I don't think the carpet is of as high of quality either. The MB rubber mats mentioned previously are a bargain. Two winters ago I put them in our E420 for the winter and never took them out. They work great in the summer also.

The floor mats do come with the anchor like secure clips to prevent from sliding forward, this is neat but isn't it pathetic that MB needs to supply this with floor mats just because they are becoming thinner and thinner?

My 400E didn't come with the original floor mats, so I have no knowledge of how "old" floor mats look like, I do remember the floor mats on my previous 97 Volvo 850, they were made of wool and 3-4 times heavier than the current MB mats, there was absolutely no need to use any safety clips, that was what I expected from MB at the beginning.

I hope Volvo is still using those quality floor mats.
