novice in need of help
 

Hello, start off by introducing myself. My name is Josh, I've never owned a diesel and I can change my oil and my brakes (far as my car knowledge goes)

I have wanted to own an old truck so I bought a Frankenstein. 1963 F100 that has a Mercedes om617 engine. We drove the truck from Mississippi to Florida and it drove fine, not the fastest but made it after a long journey.

I believe that I left the glow plug engaged for too long so i will be attempting to replace those. (what brand is the best to purchase?) Dont know if you can diagnose it from the video posted below?

The truck had a burning smell and wont fire up. (do you think this is the glow plugs?) I tested the battery and it is fine.

Welcome Josh, see if you can get the moderator to flip your post over to the Diesel Discussion section. You'll get a lot more exposure to your post.

I second getting this over to Diesel Discussion. Bosch and Beru are the glowplugs to get, if indeed that is your problem. Too many possible issues with a Frankentruck to diagnose just yet. Burning smell is not usually a good thing.

Are you interested in selling the truck? Let me know.
Inspect the glow plug wiring real close for the burning smell? I assume you are pressing on a button to "energize" the glow plugs? Do you have a volt meter? If you do check the resistance thru each glow plug. The one that is "different" will probably be bad. If you are glowing manually press it and count to 10. That should be plenty.

Let me know if you want to sell it "as is".

was just a fuse that was hidden under the dash leading to the glow plugs.

Jim I have always wanted an old truck and I just got it like 2 weeks ago. Everything is for sale though for the right price.

do not buy autolite glowplugs.They are bad for breaking,and leaving threaded part in the hole.
