W140 Rear Left Window problem

The other day I rolled down my window and it did not want o roll back up, from either the console switch or the panel switch. I managed to pull it up and hold it in place, both switches will take it down but will not roll it up. I can hear the motor click once you hit the switch to roll it up but nothing happens.

Any one with any ideas?

All other windows work fine

Thanks in advance

1992-1994 W140s S class cars had a defective part that attached the glass of the window to the control arm that raises it and lowers it.

This part is plastic and not very strong. The result: after regular use the part eventually brakes and has to be replaced by a newer designed part fitted to 1995-on models.

Seen this happen in several W140s and usually the rear door windows tend to give more problems than the front.

The only way to solve the problem is to access the control arm and change the plastic link.

Good luck!

W140 is very common to have binding or broken rear window regulators.

Any ideas on how to remove the panel, or is it simple enough to figure out?

I consider my self mechanically inclined.

Thanks

Easy enough.
Two hidden screws are behind the woodgrain near the inner
pull handle.
That woodgrain is tricky.
At the rear of the woodgrain, you slip in a butterknife at the bottom and slide it upwards to release the tabs.It then folds out from the rear.
It may have another screw in the armrest going straight down from the top under a little cover.
Remove the plastic trim at the door striker area.
After the screws are removed, the door panel lifts up.

Riveter

I had same problem with RR door. The regulator cable was damaged . I got part here at Fastline. Don't forget 5 rivets. I used the riveter from Harborfreight:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=41291
This is POS tool, but it did the job and the price was right - $12.99. Overnight shipping was more.

A. Rosich is absolutely right!

A few time ago the exact same situation happen with me, and after removing the door panel I found out that the cause was indeed that small plastic part, It is very easy to fix you don't even have to buy a new one.

My regulator was the problem, I bought one from FastLane and the instructions on this thread are great, about 45 minutes worth of work and $72 for the regulator and all done.

OH Yeah, you need a new motor/regulator. they come as a complete unit. i have replaced two of them in diferent cars of mine. you will need a rivet gun, but not a bad job. part cost about $150. good luck, mike 602 616 2974 phoenix.
