W124 Drivetrain vibration since rebuild
Hi guys,
I finished rebuilding my 300TE's rear end. I did: Subframe and differential mounts Lower control arm bushing and carrier arm bushing All 3 control arm links and tie rods New GKN axle half shafts both sides Differential axle seals Propshaft flex disks front and rear, bearing and rubber support Got it aligned after. It drives perfect on the streets but on the freeway it has a little vibration felt at 70mph and over. Less than 60 and its not there. No vibration before doing this work. **when I removed the prop shaft, it was not aligned with the MB notches so I assumed the PO could have put it back on wrong, so I put it in line with the MB notches. Could it simply be this? I have no way of knowing the old position now of course. Where should I look or anything to test? Thanks

Changes to the pinion angle will cause vibration on the 124's.
Had a vibration on a 93' 300E that was due to this. Were the rear diff bushings oriented/indexed when installed? Was the front bushing/mount shim between the body/chassis put back and was it between the body/chassis and differential? My Indy is an excellent MBZ tech and said when he did the diff bushings the shim at the front of the diff looked thinner than most so he installed a thicker shim and ALL of the vibration was gone. Good luck!

May want to have the prop shaft checked for balance and possibly rebalanced. It may have been rebalanced in the wrong position if it was not correctly set up before.

Oh so it's a shim, not a washer. I put it on the nut above the subframe. I'll get it back under the mount which will lower the angle. I bet that's it. Thanks! Will report back in a few days.

Confirmed it was the shim. I had it on the top on the nut instead of underneath the bottom mount. Vibration gone!
Thanks guys
