Just curious
Anyone ever test their car's carbon monoxide with a home carbon monoxide monitoring system? I took both my co monitors and put them in my detached garage and closed the doors and used my remote start to see what happens......After 15 minutes the alarms did not sound and the garage is only a small 2 car garage. I tested the monitors and they worked with the test buttons, but being in a closed garage worth the engine running, they did not sound.does this mean my engine is in top shape

Did you have them positioned close to the floor?

One was about 76 inches from the floor and one was on the floor next to the exhaust

Gas or diesel car?

Probably need to run longer. The one at flook level will go off first.

Really? 15 minutes in an enclosed garage and no CO alarm? When I opened the door the air was so hot and thick from exhaust fumes.

If you have a portable generator or gas lawn mower, try that same test. I read that the small gas engines are way dirtier than modern vehicle engines. Do Not enter garage until properly ventilating it. Or youtube, confined space carbon monoxide dangers.
Also home carbon monoxide detectors do not sample the air continuously, only in some predetermined interval, maybe every fifteen minutes or so. |
