Seat Movement During Acceleration

Hopefully some of you have experience in this matter and can explain a fix for me.

When I brake hard on my 500E and then accelerate I notice that the seat moves back slightly and stops. The movement isn't great but I can't imagine it's normal either.

The seats are power adjust, is it possible that the gears on the motor are worn or need tightening. Or maybe the pinnion needs to be replaced.

Honestly I don't have a parts brake down to determine what the cause can be. I really would appreciate if anyone can offer some help. Also please let me know if you need more detailed information.

Thanks!

Is the whole seat assembly moving, or just the seat back? On the 560 I noticed that once and a while the seat back will shift forward slightly under hard braking. I wrote it off as "wear" in the adjustment mechanism.

Mike,

Actually the whole seat moves. It feels like it's sliding. I'ts only about a 1/4" of movement but my concern is that eventually it will increase and damage something.

I also don't know if this is considered "normal".

If it's something I can fix I want to take care of it, I also have a warranty and it may be covered under that.

My '95 Wagon front seat back does this as well. More pronounced on the right-side than the left-side of the drivers seat, but it does do it.

What I find even more annoying is when the armrest is down, it shifts up and down. Drives me crazy in stop and go traffic. It doesn't do it when the seat back is more vertical or more reclined than normal.

I have been wondering if the gears in the hinge are worn. If so does this mean completely disassembling the whole seat to fix it?

Seat movment

I have a 2001 E-430, whcih has this rocking or "click" in the driver's seat. Local dealer says it is an interior trim problem and not covered under my extended warranty. It obviously is a defect in workmanship and should be covered by an overall "fix" by Mercedes. My car is less than 3 years old, but now has 93,000 miles due to a long commute each day. The click showed up around 50,000 miles-still no satisfaction from MB. If anyone has had the problem fixed- I would like to know.

Slight movement in the drivers seat during breaking on my car as well.

Yeah, my 95 wagon driver's seat feels the same. Not sure if it's related, but this weekend the old girl spit out a nice, shiny ball bearing from the underside of the seat. This things was about 1/2 inch or so in diameter and as near as I could figure it came from the track area on the floor. Didn't investigate it yet. But that loose feeling has been there for a while; long before I saw the bearing.

Just to comment, mine hasn't changed since I posted last. It isn't getting worse so that is good. I've also sat in many other W124's and experienced the same thing so I'm wondering if it's normal. BTW I think my measurements were off regarding the movement, it's not 1/4", it is more like 1/16" movement.

oconeelee,
I'm certain that the W210 had issues with the power seat motors and many were changed Goodwill by MB. You may want to do a search on this site, I'm sure it will come up. Good luck.

E430- Seat Problem Solved

I had the seat problem( driver and passenger seats) in a 2000 E430 4matic with 30,000miles on it. After researching the problem on the web I was able to convince my dealer with print outs it was a factory defect. The fix was to replace the entire seat frame which required the car to go to an upolstery shop. MB gave me a rental car since the dealer couldn't have the car done in one day. I was very pleased with the job and the seats (driver and passenger) no longer click on acceleration and braking. MB knows this problem exists in the 210 line and will take care of the problem if you persist.....

2000 W210

Dealer replaced both front seat frames, FP-number 210-910-41-36 and 210-910-42-36 after testing vehicle, torquing frames, still noisey, replaced under warranty. approx. 40,000. Repair job number 26MTZ10.
