Question Oil Pan Replacement 300TE Wagon

I need to replace a punctured oil pan in my 1993 Mercedes 300TE Wagon, and I am curious if I can do this without needing an engine hoist??
I have the new oil pan, and plenty of tools, but I am not sure if I will need to lift the engine to remove the old pan, or not, and am hoping for some advice please....

Please do NOT flame me. if you cannot offer useful help, please refrain from posting!!
Thanks in advance!!

If it's like the Diesels, then you will need both a crane and very high ramps. You might be able to use a board and jack up the transmission pan, but thats a lot of weight on thin steel.

Take a look at the tab above labeled Tech Info where Pelican has all ther tutorials on how to do repairs. They have a pic of the oil pan under the "How To Change Your Oil " tutorial. It looks pretty open and unobscured by any other engine parts.

It is a horrible job with the engine in the car. Steering components get in the way.

Sure, "unobscured". Here's what the WHOLE thing looks like:

You need to raise the engine enough to access all the bolts (something like 40-50 bolts of various sizes). Once it's loose, you need enough clearance below to swing it down and around the steering gear and crossmember. This may involve removing various suspension parts. It also may require rotating the engine by hand, because the crank throws can obstruct the pan.

You will find it easy to do with a hoist, can be done with jack but its a lot harder, remove sway bar, remove trans lines, removed steering center link, best to remove drivers side engine mount so you can slide the pan to the left, while removing oil pan , if you can ,glue gasket to block and slide oil pan in.

i've replaced a few oil pans on 124s and 201s.

remove fan shroud, rad hoses and trans cooler lines from radiator.

drop the exhaust everywhere except the manifold. tie it to the rear bumper so i doesn't crack from the weight.

attach some way to lift the engine from the top. remove lower bolts from motor mounts.

remove sway bar from frame, leave alone at control arms.

lift engine, remove oil pan. it has to come out the front, but the engine has to be high enough to get the rear of the pan past the crossmember. good luck, chuck.
