1995 MERCEDES SL500 POWER LOSS
 

OCCASIONALLY MY SL500 WILL LOSE POWER AFTER STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION.

IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR; AT OTHER TIMES IT RUNS LIKE A "TIGER"
WITH FULL SPEED AND POWER.

IT ACTS LIKE THE BRAKES HAVE COME ON OR SOMETHING, BUT COULD BE THE COMPUTER OR THE GAS FEED SYSTEM OR ?????????

DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA REGARDING THIS INTERMITTENT FAILURE?

Has your engine harness been replaced? If not, that is probably the reason.

MY WIRING HARNESS IS NEW AND CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. MY DEALER FROM WHOM I
BOUGHT THE CAR ADDED SOME GAS CLEANER AND SAID THAT IS MOST LIKELY THE PROBLEM.

IT SEEMS TO BE RUNNING WELL AND I WILL ADD SOME OF THAT CHEM EVERY 2 MONTHS.

I have found the best additive is Chevron's Techron regular or concentrate. If you are using GOOD premium gasoline I don't see why you would need an additive more than 1-2 times a year. If I am going on a trip i usually fill the tank and add Techron for the first fill up. My CL600 sat around for 17 years, being part of a rich mans collection. I picked it up and drove 120 miles home and thought: 400 HP, sure doesn't feel like it. Had an opportunity to drive over to Phoenix, added Techron and averaged 84 MPH for the 3 hour trip[ over there. Car NOW runs like the 400 HP beast it is! It needed an
"Italian Tuneup"
