Back light on instrument cluster
 

I have a 2000 S500 the back light on the instrument cluster isn't working and I was told there was a burnt smell coming from the vents, the pointer arrows for the speed, tachometer, etc.. work but it will not show anymore than that, how do I remove the instrument cluster and is there any serviceable parts such as lights bulbs to check or replace?

There is a cluster "key" that slips into the bottom corners of the cluster that allows removal. Like older MB its a compression fit but the key was a new twist on the W220. There are several good YouTube videos that detail the removal.

yes thank you I did watch the videos and saw the key, these items are offered for sale on ebay looks like a easy job so I will be doing it.
