W124 pulleys loose? Get new or retighten and how

My air injection pump pulley is very loose. Do I need it. I tried tightening it but it just spins it has a big 17 millimeter nut. Is there a trick to this or special tools I have the fan holding tool

Also the main pulley the one with no grooves or teeth in it when I spin it it hits some metal and gets stuck once in awhile.

Any ideas would be helpful any help thank you

It sounds as if both parts have failed bearings and are in need of replacement. There is no "tightening".

Search archives , there is a Chinese bearing that can replace your airpump pully bearing, my neighbor a machinist installed mine, you need to cut a washer that's welded to keep bearing in place, cut washer remove bearing and install new bearing spot weld washer back or stake washer , a new air injection pump new is about 1,000 dollars, THE BEARING IS NOT AVAILABLE SEPERATLY

That's what I did on my '94 E320 with the M104. Whatever info I found online about using a M103 belt was wrong though. I had to try a few in the parts store parking lot. I forgot to write it down though.

Doing this required plugging some lines into the head and exhaust. I removed the EGR at the same time so I don't remember what went where exactly but I made plugs by running a pipe tap into what was left of the lines, not the head which would also be possible if you're feeling ballsy, and putting some pipe plugs in.

Mine locked up on the 300SEL, removed years ago. Car will run fine and not damage it...it is just used for cold starts. MB dumped precats on the M103 in 1990 so they installed EGR and the AIR injection pump to help with cold start emissions.

I removed the whole air injection pump. And ran a belt an inch and half shorter . 3 days no problems. The tube that went to the back of the pump i cut and left open.
