Rear Shock Clunck
Hello and Good day,
I recently replaced the rear shocks on my 95 E320 Coupe (180,000 on the car, shocks were original!!) At first all was well and I was very proud of myself. The hideous noise of the one collapsed shock disappeared. Just recently, that same noise has returned much to my disgust. I was told to hand torque the top mount so that the rubber cushion flattens to the circumference of the retaining washer which I did meticulously. Do I possibly have a bad replacement shock or could other misadventures be unfolding? It is very firm but when bounced by hand, the sound is audible. I am aware that other suspension/control devices comprise the machine but it sounds very much like a shock to me. Thanks tremendously for any insight or advice. Cordially and Respectfully, Bill |

I know that some report success with other shocks but I have only ever used those two. RayH |

I think you were given bad advice. I have always tightened the top nut as tight as it will go, within reason of course, not to a certain diameter of squish.
