1985 190e 2.3L Gas in oil

Hey all, my son, taking after his old man, bought this little 190e yesterday. The car wasnt running. We threw plugs, wires, cap and rotor on it. They were HAMMERED!! So I thought it would fire right up. No such luck. I fanned the gas pedal and finally got it to catch. It runs VERY poorly. After running for a few minutes I shut it off. There was gas coming BACK through the vent tube that connects between the valve cover and air cleaner. There is a smell of gas in the valve assembly (oil cap off) and when I check the oil, I can smell gas in it.

He bought the car for scrap more or less $350 and put another $150 into it, I am telling him to kick it down the road unless this is a component issue, but looks like it might be a bad/stuck intake valve????

Any ideas???

Thanks so much!
