HELP HELP sulfur smell from the ac

I have 99 s420 and yesterday coming from a trip to San Diego from LA, suddenly my AC blew a whiff of sulfur into the cabin. It was pretty potent, kind of like Chem 101 S2 stuff. It happened twice yesterday. Once in afternoon and another at night. My ac was on LO both sides and I was at 3 lines of fan. It was not the first time it happened either. I have 45000 miles. Plus once I changed my antifreeze at the dealer this year, they only used one bottle for it. Usually I am running at 100c but before I was 80. Is one bottle good enough. Please post if you can help me out.

By the way I had about 900 lbs of passengers including myself and some lugage. I was going 65 at cruise control.

Are you sure one of your passengers didn't break wind?

Yes I'm sure. I think it is because its running rich and the cats are trying to burn the excess fuel. I have heard bad gas will cause this problem but I have always used Chevron supreme 91 octane and I have never added any octane boost or any other fuel system cleaners.

This may be way off the topic since I don't know a great deal about your car but check your battery.

The last time I had a nasty sulfur smell coming into the car it was my alternator over charging the battery. The battery was getting soo hot it would cause the acid to boil and create an awful smell like rotten eggs.

I found that my voltage regulator had gone bad and I simply bought the part and installed it on the alternator. I believe cost was $70.00 and the installation was very simple on a 190E.

My battery is 4 months old (genuine MB) and using the climate control lcd I usually have 13.9-14.1 volts. I never drive like Schumacher in my S-class so I dont think I am overfueling (running rich) but I think that the sulfur deposits in the catalytic converter are heating up and burning away. I was on my way to San Diego, so I would assume all the components were getting pretty hot. My temp was at a steady 100C IN 75f ambient weather. I also remember the same smell once I was driving to Las Vegas with similar passenger load. Anyways, Ill go to Benz tomorrow and keep you guys posted.
