W124 E320 Radiator leak
 

Hi folks,

I'm inquiring what is the best procedure to replace the radiator fitting (the top part that bends 90 degrees for the drain hose). Do I need to remove the radiator to remove or can I just pry it out from the top? I have a leak in that area. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Drain a little anti freeze, remove the upper rad hose from radiator, put a 10mm 12 point wrench over end of elbow to release catch , use a small flat head screwdriver and pry up gently, the new part snaps into place, you will figure it out with new part in hand

X2 nulu...hope you don't mind if I add to your suggestion.

Put the closed end of the wrench into the upper neck of the radiator. Place the closed end of the wrench over the fitting, then push upward on the fitting and it will compress the ears/catch.

nulu your spot on there with that information...It will be the small O ring perished .If you can remove it and just fit a new O ring It will be more of a problem removing the air from the syatem after. Thes are elbows are in th aim of fire as you work on the engine

cleavster, to facilitate air removal from the cooling system after reinstalling the upper radiator hose, run the engine for several minutes with the expansion tank cap loose.

After receiving the replacement part from this site, I replaced it last weekend. The procedures and advise really made the job very straightforward. When I removed the part, one of the ears broke off inside the radiator as I was prying it out. Luckily, my finger was under the close 10mm wrench to catch it and was able to slide it out. Besides leaving the expansion tank cap loose, I turned on the defroster for maximum heat to circulate the coolant into the system. All good and no more leaks!!! Again, Thanks everyone!
