Mercedes Smart Key

I bought a 2009 MB E-320 and the car came with only one key. Car dealer does not have a another key.
I called Mercedes Benz Dealer in Texas and they gave me a quote of $ 350 - $ 400 for another key.
Is there any other way to get an extra Smart Key for lower cost than the dealer?
I hope I can get lower price and thanks for your suggestion.

In Europe there are many automotive locksmiths who are able to provide replacements at a fraction of the dealership costs. I assume there are similar options where you live?

Ask your dealer is you can get a mickey mouse key for the 2009 - they are <$50

Please explain mickey mouse key. New term to me.

Atlanta M-B dealer experience earlier this year, we purchased an additional Key ($ 241.56) and Master Key ($ 77.55).

I think the mickey mouse key is the metal keyblade that is clipped into the smart key.

All locksmiths here ask the same price as a dealer for a benz smart key.

Call other dealers. The dealers do not have to be local either. I've paid $140 for these smart keys out the door, but I have a wholesale account, and I can only do my cars.

As was said search online. You should be able to fax the needed info. I am in Seattle and I get best dealer prices for Toyota parts in Texas and BMW parts in Florida. Some dealers offer a discount if you say you are with a club. Pick a club and say you are with it. No one ever asked me for proof.

Doesn't exist for EIS equipped MB's............The blade key (which unlocks doors and trunk)slides into the smart key

Do you think that locksmith will make electronic keys like Smart Key?
As far I know Smart Key is 100% electronic and part of it is mechanical to open the door only.
If they can do that in Europe is worth to try.
Thanks

About the bladed key, my smart key came without the bladed key in it.
I simply have one smart key (electronic only)

raymond~ 07-28-2016 10:49 PM

last I knew for sure, every bladed mechanical key has a part number which
corresponded to the Smartkey they are paired with, as each generation of
Smartkey has a slightly different size, thus necessitating different size blade
when holstered. they bladed key should be $5 dealer cost, or about $15
retail

insofar as ordering a Smartkey by mail, I would be surprised if they did allow
that anymore. I organized a group buy years ago for Smartkeys ($60-ish) and
believed that raised the ire of MBUSA, after which they declared such practice
void through their dealers. they instituted 'theft relevant policy' and can be
quite adamant about having the vehicle brought to the dealer for VIN and owner verification.

the only way around this might be an MBUSA recognized locksmith who may
have some latitude in requiring the vehicle to be on site at the dealer, or towed
in.

It is quite a common service in the UK - I don't know how you are going to get past the proof of ownership hurdle though with a long distance purchase
