Thanks for posting pics of the "screw up" on this thread! Great information! Great recovery too! Many of us here in that same situation would be scrounging for a used head about now! Now with my new air compressor and tools to be purchased in the future, I can look out for this one, as well as other potential overeager attempts at MB maintenance!!

Just an update for anyone interested. The allen head capscrews cannot be used because they are too tall and prevent the valve cover from contacting the head. I had to get some hex head bolts and turn the shank down to 7mm. Below, left to right, original, first modify and the second modify. Cap'n doesn't want to steer anyone on the wrong path.
