Question 1998 C230 kOMPRESSOR

Dear Friends,

I have this 1998 C230 kOMPRESSOR and the car was running fine, no problem at all, then i had a business trip and the car became parked fro 7 months,

After this 7 months the first time i attempt to run the car it start right up but it was very rough then a sent the car to a mechanic of mine ( not MB specialist at all) and he told me that one of the coils was bad, so we change one coil ( 2 cylinders) and the car was smoth again but with no power at all

If i pushed past After 4000 rpm the engine started to became erratic and loses rpm, so i throttle back and the engine return to work properly

Some time, the engine got scramble thou out the rpm range, but if turned the car off and turned on again it resume to work

Then I thought that the gasoline was old and etc, so I run the car for 1 month in this condition trying to clean the tank and the fuel system

But that did not happens, so finally the situation got worse and now the car does not pass 1600 rpm and the car barely have the power to run in a level street

So I changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, cleaned the fuel injectors ( that was not dirt at all )

But the car still not working It idles smoothly, but if i throttle up it barely pass the 2000 rpm, became very rough and I can it even back firing

I unplugged the MAP ( air flow sensor) but with out it the engine donīt even start

Any help and input will be appreciate

Thanks

Ricardo

Take the air flow sensor out of the pipe by the drivers side of the radiator and check if it is oil fouled. If it is (it will be) then the oil separator will need to be replaced along with the air flow sensor. Additionally the intercooler and piping will need to be cleaned with solvent to prevent the residual oil from fouling the new sensor.

Thanks for the reply , it will be maybe usefull for my slk with the same problems
But ,, i always think hard , how is this possible while the car just stored ? How the oil comes there while the car is not running ?
My first opinion goes too the fuel pressure ( pump ) or faulty fuel injector

Hello pepe,
I think duxthe1 is right! I was thinking exacly like you but i was wrong...
-I cleaned the fuel injectors
-I changed the spark plugs
-I changed the fuel pump
-I changed the fuel Filter
-I run with new gasoline for a month
Then i finnaly sent the car for a dealr to diagnose the problem and they said that the problem was the Air Flow Sensor
Well i change it at home and the car start to work right away!
The car is not perfect the is a huge gap between the idle and the first time I throttle up but after that the car works
Maybe i need to clear some codes or someting that i Still donīt know
And as duxthe1 said the problem was a lot of oil in the air tube that goes from the kompressor to the sensor, my sensor was very oily and there was a few accumulation of oil in that tube
What is the oil separator and where is it located? Is this the on the passenger side over the valve cover? and why itīs goes bad since itīs a plastic piece with nothing to brake inside ?
