inherent with the ODBII protocols, it should store transient codes so as not to
keep false positives. so head to your neighborhood auto parts store as many will check the code for free. if you're game, you may want to pick up your own reader just to have. the most basic are very inexpensive, with pricier ones offering more features or probe for more sensors/codes beyond the basic ODBII codes

I have one of these and the Tourque app.
Mini ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 Car Diagno... Super cheap and and can provide a lot more info than a cheap reader. If your car is pre-OBDII here's a link to CEL codes and how to check them: Mercedes – OBD Trouble Codes |

OBD 2 was for '96 and later. There is a homemad code reader solution with LED's for some of the 124's and similar age MBs described somewhere in the dusty shelves of this forum.

Can anyone tell me if the obd1 stores codes ? My check engine light isn't on anymore but I would still like to know what it came on for. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk |

the challenge with OBD-I is that the application followed no clear standard other than
guidelines and minimal requirements. this allowed each manufacturer to use the port with some differences. so the question, I believe, might include whether Mercedes designed storage for their vehicles to include storage of information and/or in what manner to help with diagnostics? I've not been able to find anything after browsing OBD history and development for the past hour. You may also want to include checking with the lads over on Euro MB forums may have insight, e.g. MB UK

**UPDATE**
I figured out the pattern for the check engine light to turn on. It will come on after the car has been idling for more then 5 min but once I accelerate it will shut off right away. Has this ever happened to anyone ? In the process of getting a obd1 reader Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk |
