Water pump question
I have a 1984 500 SEL . It's a true gray market Mercedes. It has the vacum ajustable headlights, no smog equipment, & it runs very strong. My question. This mechanic tells me that the water pump is completely different than an American version. He tells me he would have to order a "special" German only water pump "$$$" or rebuild the one on it again "$$$". I know Mercedes can be different from market to market. Is this mechanic telling me the truth or is he greasing me up for a huge bill ? Any difinite answer on this, or is it a "Grey Area" ?
Thank You All. Rev. Buzz |

Contact the Mercedes Benz Classic Centre in Irvine California. With the VIN they can tell you the exact part number and price. Overnight FedEx Shipping as well unless they have to get it from Germany.

RB:
Is the thermostat on the top of the pump, or on the side? If on the top, the pump is the same for all 1982-85 380/500. If on the side, you can use a pump from 1986-91 420/560. |

Recommend buying a reconditioned water pump from your local MB dealer. You need to return the old water pump, or pay a core charge.

I've dealt with Kellogg Automotive - Water Pump Rebuilding - Water Pump Parts - Obsolete Parts Manufacture for parts to rebuild a water pump on a John Deere engine.
Their story is they bought up closing water pump rebuilders and started in the business. Mom answers the phone and probably packs the stuff out for shipment too. If you google map them, there is a dirt race track not far away from them. |
