Follow up on aux electric cooling fans on 95 E320, fuse D melts out

So on the 95 E320 I have found helpful chats on the aux electric cooling fans whch in my opinion prevent the overheating which causes cyl head gasket leaks and many issues with these cars..Often the fuse on the fan circuit relay blows because the low speed has been equipped with the 15 amp fuse and the info clarifies that the low speed relay should be the 30 amp fuse and there is also a fuse rating increase noted for he 15 amp fuse which is in the high speed circuit...

When I got my car the relays were backwards and the 15 amp was blown..replaced it and they worked a few days and then needed to adjust the refrigerarnt level (it was overcharged) and they came back on again..(also plugged with too much oil from PO using K mart refrigerant with oil added)

Then the fans worked great! but I got this burning smell...and find fuse D melting out its holder and not blown but hot, hot hot!! discolored and...I did find a discussion of a repair involving a fuse holder and adding a little wiring modification..So I found a high quality marine holder and attached at the feed below the fuse holder and made room alongside the box under the cover for a 15 amp blade fuse..it gets mildly warm but not burning hot as the euro style fuse did..

Anyway anyone reviving the cooling fan on old w124's may have a similar issue with the supply fuse and hopefully the system can be kept working to insure long engine life with AC on in hot conditions.. I suspect the blame placed on the head gasket design may actually be more due to the cooling fan system which likely fails and then the car is driven and doesnt boil over but the huge aluminum cylindeer head expands too much to maintain the gasket seal over time..and leaks and failure result..

Any comments more than welcome! Thanks for a great forum..way better than Just Answer and its FREE!
