Three Resets
A couple of months ago, I had a ‘Check Engine’ light on. Initially I took it to a local shop where they told me the code was P1700, but they did not know what part to buy, so they reset the light and sent me on my way.
A week later the light reappeared. I took the car to a Foreign Car Transmission place, because the code description said I was having an Up-shift Valve delay problem. This shop told me the valve looked like it was doing what it should be doing. The vacuum was good, it was present when it should be and not when it should not be. I then went out a bought an OttoScan ODB II for my Palm. When the OttoScan arrived I checked the code (P1700 again) and reset the ‘Check Engine’ light. All was fine for three weeks, until I drove the car about 700 miles on vacation. The Engine light came on again while I was out of town. Not knowing the repair shops where I was while on vacation, I took out my Palm and ended up resetting the light 3 times over my two week vacation. Since I have been back home, my ‘Check Engine’ light has not come back on. I really don’t know if this is a blessing or curse. A local MB tech, with about 5 years under his belt, implied that 3 resets on a ‘Check Engine’ light would shut that censor off permanently. I find this hard to believe, but would really like to hear what others think. It has now been 2 months since that light was on last. Do 3 resets, permanently shut off a censor? MrBill |

No! The critreria for the P1 700 code calls for 2 consecutive TRIPS with this problem.
When the weather is cold this will happen quickly, but in warmer weather this might not happen every day. The code means that the TRANSMISSION isn't staying in gear long enough when driving for the first time each day, CATALYST warm-up. Very common code!!
