I have a 1998 C280 Merc. I can buy an extended (complete coverage, $0 deductable) covering 7 yr/100K miles for about $1200.
Considering the cost of repairs, frequency of repairs, etc., is it worth it. I plan on keeping the car for quite a while. (This is NOT a Dealer warantee, this is from the Amer. Auto. Assn). Doug |
Doug-
I've had good luck with Warrantech: http://www.warrantech.com/c_auto.html Give them a look first. Most of the Benz dealers sell Warrantech warranties but you may find an independent service shop that will sell you the exact same Warrantech warranty at a far lower price. As far as I know you cannot buy it directly from Warrantech but you may be able to find out from them who sells their warranty in your area. Be SURE to buy it before you are within 1 month or 1,000 miles of MB warranty expiration. I bought one for my wife's '95 E420 and will buy one eventually for my '98 E430. I think it's well worth the price. Good luck ------------------ '98 E430 MBCA-Peachtree |
As a tech I have seen Warrantech save many customers litteraly 1000's of dollars at a time. I had one S class that needed a wirring harness and an evap. core at the same time. Can you say 3,500 dollars? It cost the customer 200. 100 per claim item.
GET THE WARRANTY!!! Even if you don't use it it's worth it unless you are one lucky sole or are going to sell the car after the factory warr. expires. ------------------ Benzmac: ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN LEAD TECHNICIAN FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
Does anyone know if I can get this type of warranty on my '83 300SD with 263K miles? And does a component have to fail altogether (my trans is shifting hard) or just be acting a bit strangely?

Warrantech and most other aftermarket warranties fail to become cost effective if implemented after the factory warranty has expired. After 100K miles Warrantech usually wont do much of a warranty. With over a quarter million miles I think you are just a tad beyond the cutoff. Even if they would write a policy they would inspect the &)(*%$#) out of it. I doubt you'd be able to pass off a problematic tranny and get it covered. Besides, the cost of the policy on a car with that many miles would cost more than a tranny rebuild.
