Loose Headlamp Knob/Rear Fog Lamp Question
My 1992 300D 2.5 is wired for the rear fog lamp, and it works. The problem is, 9 out of 10 times when I pull the knob out to the second detent, it just comes all the way off. I've inspected both the knob and the switch, and I can't find anything that is obviously broken - is there a plastic tab or something that is supposed to prevent the knob from coming all the way off?
Also, what's up with the orange dot at the center of the knob? Is it supposed to illuminate or something? TIA. |
The orange dot is a light that illuminates when the rear fog is on. If you didn't see the bulb, there isn't one installed.
Either the knob, switch, or both are worn to the point that the friction fit isn't strong enough to hold. The knob is only $3 brand new. I would swap that first and see if it works. |

I'll try the new new knob & hope it's tight enough. I imagine the knob deforms over time more than the switch, so hopefully that's enough. Do you happen to know what size bulb fits in the switch? |
I don't know the number off hand, but it's the same bulb for the instruments, AC panel, and gear selector. The bulb for the light switch is frosted unlike the others, but I don't think it matters.
They sell them at auto parts stores for like $5 a pair but they're available a lot cheaper online. I tossed a few on my last order. http://www.**********.com/Products/228875094-MFG615.aspx Dammit, blocked my link. Replace the stars with the letters: R M E U R O P E A N |

Not all light switches are wired for the rear fog lamp.
