280CE.. now with missing parts

Good morning,

I just picked up a 1979 280CE with a dubious history. The owner had dropped it off with a mechanic friend and said, what does it need. He was provided with the following list:

1979 MEB 280CE Needs:
Kick down linkage
Torque Converter bolts
shift linkage adjustable rod
Cap $58.65 Bosch
Rotor $6.35 Bosch
Plugs $1.98 ea
Wires $92.23
Oil
Filter
Antifreeze
Alternator $200
Fuel Pump $155.76
Oil Filter housing or fittings or fittings to hook up oil pressure line.
16 hours labor $400

The following parts are in the trunk:
Alternator
Fuel filter housing
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Fan w/ clutch
Fan shroud
Air Cleaner

In the documentation, Fuel pump was replaced on Aug 8, 2012 (have not tested pump, but the positive screw terminal has snapped off)
There is a receipt that says 2-2-05, New servo Unit $774. (not sure what part was replaced)
Looks to have been regularly serviced until at least 2000 by the same mechanic (no business name on the records, but definitely a European based on the hand writing.

I would love to get this thing running, however, I am much more familiar with the 300D and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be near as much information on the W123 gassers available online, so I could definitely use some help.

So here's my biggest challenge. It looks like the mechanic took a lot of stuff apart and did not put it all back together before I got the car.

I know the following are missing:
Oil filter housing bolts - need to find replacements, unsure of size
Distributor hold down bolt - need replacement, unsure of size
Fan belts
Coolant overflow reservoir
Radiator cap
Battery

I am attaching pictures of the engine bay, as I just don't have a good diagram of what should be in there.
Could you chime is with any parts you recognize as missing?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

This is also posted over on benzworld but I haven't gotten much in the way of responses

Ummm

Well I reckon the people who used to be on BW are more likely to be able to give you definitive answers - try sending a PM to nutz4benz (moderator on the W123 forum) - but the problem is that since BW had the security panic everyone seems to have forgotten their passwords and can't be bothered with the place any more!

Anyway - what I can do for you is to direct you to the startek site to see if you can get specific details of the parts you need. All of the answers you need are there!

In the old days US residents would have been able to get access to EPC - now you have to pay. It might be worth your time paying for this as it could in the long run help cut down on the chase. Otherwise - like the rest of us (Europeans) - you're stuck with MB Atlanta and their stripped down EPC.

#######

The servo unit sounds like it might be the brake booster - particularly at that price.

#######

I reckon you are best off starting at the front of the engine with the fan and the distributor and alternator etc and see how far you get.

Take note of specific parts that obviously need to be connected to something else. Take pictures - enhance with arrows - post them up and I might be able to say what's what but there were a few variations on the theme that make it difficult to say exactly what's gone and what's not.

##########

My best advice is - don't be daunted by it - take a methodical logical approach to the problem and work from one end of the engine to another tagging and flagging unknown connections as you go.
