W124 Sunroof Service: Parts?
Have everything ready to go for a headliner replacement (except the time, it seems). Since I see the sunroof panel needs to come out anyway, I figure a little preventive maintenance on the sunroof is in order, since I have no record of it ever being done.
I'm thinking about replacing the sunroof seal which looks pretty dried up, although it's not leaking. Gonna pick up a little but of the Gleitpaste and clean and lube as needed. Are there any other parts that would be worth replacing? I keep hearing about these "felt pads" that are in there, but for the life of me I can't find anything like that on the EPC. Is there anything else that really ought to be replaced "while I'm there?" I'm thinking specifically of rubber, felt, or other materials that would be likely to degrade due to age and/or heat cycling. I just want to know before I have the whole thing apart, you know? EDIT: I should mention that I'm aware of the special tools that are required to R&R the sunroof. I'm going to pick up the two red plastic guides, as they're only a couple bucks each. I'm probably going to skip the sunroof pliers, unless someone can give me a compelling reason not to. They don't look all that necessary, and the price of the tool has shot up to around $150! |

If your going in to service the sunroof, you need to replace the sunroof bridges left and right sides , these have the felt rubber feet included, don't take it apart just to clean and lube those old rubber parts will fall apart get the sunroof grease, mark all your bolts to bridges , that way you can get an idea where to put it initially

Well that's going to make the job significantly more expensive. Bummer!
I was looking at this thread, where he talks about cleaning and lubing without replacing the (nearly $200/each!) plastic bridges, but it was from 10 years ago - there's a pretty good chance my felt pads are in considerably worse shape. Anyone else have recent experience? |

The problem you have is that the bridges are often bent and hard/impossible to fix without breaking them. If yours are not bent, lube it up (with the correct Mercedes lube) and replace the felt pads.
I tried fixing my sunroof and had the felt pads break apart once I got it going again. I might be able to make the bridge work with new pads but when I was at the parts yard I found a 190E made in December of 93 (one of the last off the line) and found the sunroof worked well so I pulled the bridge and it was in perfect shape. It looks like a different design than my early 93 190E. It certainly had a different transmission, as mine requires a 15mm socket and this one required a 16mm. I believe the assembly is basically the same if not exactly the same between the W201 and W124.

I see this on ebay, wonder what the quality is like: 1 x Mercedes E Class W201 190SCHIEBEDACH Set Repair Kit Left Right | eBay That would have all but the 4 front pads.
