Mercedes GLC vs. GLK - What's your verdict?
If you were hoping for a 2016 Mercedes GLK, we're sorry to have to tell you that it's been discontinued! Mercedes' new model, the GLC, is derived from the C-Class, hence the "C" after the GL. Mercedes has decided to re-badge all their SUVs as a "GL" followed by whichever class the car was designed after. While Mercedes has made overall improvements and advancements to this new class, people may miss the legendary status that the GLK had achieved since it's introduction in 2008. Upgrades such as bumping the GLC's HP up to 241 from the GLK's 200, might give this model to fighting chance to appeal to GLK loyalist though. The biggest and most noticeable difference comes with the exterior styling. While one colleague, a current GLK, owner swears their allegiance to the sporty, angular styling styling of the GLK; others may prefer the more traditional, rounded design of the new GLC. What do you all think? The GLK was a great seller for MBZ, so current owners may wonder why production stopped. Do you think Mercedes just wanted to go into a new direction or was it the GLK's time? Let us know your thoughts on the new model and if you plan on considering it as a choice for yourself!

Id be driving one except, ... all of the dealers I visited in three states had a very limited stock (zero or one, low-spec) and I couldn't wait for one.
I never loved the styling of the GLK, the GLC however is reasonably attractive albeit a basic SUV shape, gets good fuel mileage, is based on a RWD platform, solid chassis and handling, can tow, and is very well laid out inside. The extra interior space over the GLK is also welcome.

Haven't driven a GLC but I recently drove a W205 sedan and was favorably impressed. You can really feel the reduced weight of the aluminum based chassis on the newer car and it felt a bit more lively than my current W204 based GLK.
I still can't believe how Mercedes chose to 'integrate' the display panel on the W205, it just looks absolutely absurd to me. Almost like the designers got through the design process on the interior and as the design team is on the way out the door some says 'Hey!!! we forgot to design a space for the main display screen!!!' So the team comes back into the room and decides to crazy glue an I-pod on the middle of the dash. The rest of the car screams elegance and beauty and the I-pod screens screams afterthought to me - every time I see a W205 interior I almost start to laugh. The first poster compares the diesel GLK 250hp against the GAS GLC's 241 hp. The base gas powered GLK, at least in the USA, came with the M272 V6 which in later versions is more like a 300hp specimen. The GLC gas vs gas comparison with the GLK is more like a 60Hp loss for the GLC. No diesel option currently exists for the GLC in the USA. I've owned a 2013 W204 GLK for 3 years now and I'm totally happy with it, great car that I plan to keep for a long time.

The iPad on the dash is what is keeping my wife from getting a new Mercedes. I love the exterior on the new ones but that interior... Most likely will get her a Honda Pilot when its time to replace the CR-V. |

I also am shopping for a new car for my Wife. Our preference is another SUV, but she will not buy the GL line because of the add-on look of the Comand screen, won't even test-drive one.
She drove and is considering the new E-class sedan instead, because the dash display is nicely integreted. Please Mercedes, fix this mistake so that I don't end up with a Tahoe in my garage!

GLE 43 coupe
I like the stylings of GLE 43. GLE 6 something with bigger engine is too expensive for me.

Always liked the GLK, but I went to the dealer on Saturday to drive a GLC and see what's up with that. Turns out there was a cpo 2011 GLK, dark blue, beige interior and only 25k miles on the clock, just traded. I bought it. Couldn't really pass it up for the money compared to the new one. It is a well optioned unit and fits in my garage to allow for more crap storage.
I am surprised by the power and nimble handling of the glk and the comfort. It is quiet and the visibility is really terrific. So far, after only a few days, I like it very much.

GLC are manufactured in Tuscaloosa
(Nothing wrong with Tuscaloosa,mind y'all)
And it does seem everything assembled in Alabama and Mercedes by nature comes with Many,Many,Many,Far Too Many Quality control issues. If one owns one and is happy, Wunnerful ! BUT,I'll NEVER own anything that MB assembles in the U.S. The GLK IS a True Mercedes (Manufactured in Germany) and the Few diesel models running around loose in the U.S. will become even more valuable in the future.
