Is the scrap yard my choice?
Seems the heat shield in the 1995 E420 is missing.
I'm told this is the plastic that goes up to the hood, and wraps behind the air filters. Seems like it would be the first thing to take out before doing general engine work. Well, I just learned it is missing, and that with the heat shield engine heat will stay out of my air intake for the climate control. Yes, the air seems to flow over the engine, and into the air intake - leading to warm air being sucked in my interior. Your suggestions please. V8 cars are out there A salvage yard may have it - but not many W124

Have a look here car-part.com . It won't list what you need but if you search for other major parts, might be able to find a complete car at a salvage yard to get parts from.

Bill, your local MB dealer should be able to supply any parts you need. Be prepared for sticker shock ... some parts cost significantly than you might expect, but not always.

I would go OEM. A used one will probably be beat and missing screws/screw holes.

Another option is to fab what you need out of some thin gauge sheetmetal.

I'd like to see a picture of the area that is missing this shield.

Something that doesn't make sense to me, is that you think air is being sucked in from the engine compartment. There is a rubber seal that prevents this. From what I remember there is a heat shield of sorts there....but I don't remember if a metal shield is part of it.

in the W124 body - the cabin air intake is in the wiper drain cowling, its the two grilles to the left and right of the wiper base. This area is positively closed off from the engine bay. There is a rubber weatherstrip for this job on the edge of the false bulkhead.
Are you mentioning the front piece that clips under the hood?
