Battery removal question, '06 CLK 350 cab.

I'll be putting my wife's CLK away for the winter soon and am faced with a location with no electricity to trickle charge the battery.

Knowing the pile of resets I'll have to do after, can I just disconnect the negative and leave it?
Or should I remove the battery and keep it trickle charged at home?

Also, if I remove it, how to do it to ensure no nasty surges when it gets reinstalled?

Which order to remove leads when uninstalling, then which order when reinstalling ?

Do you have access to sunlight? A solar panel can be installed to keep things going with the battery connected.

Order of cable removal does not matter, however, convention states to remove the ground wire first. This is to prevent sparks should the wrench slip and contact ground.

RE: If the wrench is on the ground terminal and it contacts body metal, no spark.

If the wrench is on the power terminal and it contacts body metal , spark.

Note, older cars from the 1950's had positive ground so I've referenced ground as the wire that leads from the battery to body / frame / engine block.

Batteries don't like total discharge, and they really don't like freezing when totally discharged. I would bring it home with me.

How to keep your car battery alive through a long cold winter
