Rear Brake Pads ?
1982 W123 .
I need to get some and wonder if there's any that are better ? . The car stops fine no matter how hard I push it but I figured you alls might know something I don't . I tried Mercedes Factory front brake pads (! $72! GASP) and they were no better, more dust etc. ? Should I just go to my FLAPS ? . TIA , |
Hi Nate,
I've included a link to brake pads in our catalog for your 82' 240D creampuff :), where you'll find various options all under that $72 mark. Our Mercedes Benz parts specialist would be happy to assist you and answer any questions that you may have. Give them a call directly at 888-280-7799. Let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with. -Dmitry |
I like PBR Deluxe brake pads as a standard option. For better performance I like Akebono Euro Ceramics. But I do have to say I've been impress with OP Part's ceramics, as shown in Dmitry's link. I use them on my VW Passat TDI. They are very close as good as the Akebono Euro Ceramics with long life and low brake dust with a lower price. I would recommend them on a VW B5.5, but I have no first hand experience on a w123. Maybe someday I might try them.

I've used the Autozone brand Duralast (repackaged) and have had no issues, plus they offer a lifetime warranty.

I like PBR Deluxe as well but does anyone sell them anymore? I think any ceramic is better than any semi-metallic.

THANX ! .
I decided to try the Ceramics this tme and have set them up for willcall as soon as available . |
you won't be sorry.I never have to wash my wheels hardly now.

Ceramic Brake Pads & Dust
That's my hope but I'll believe it when I see it....

If you are only changing the rears, you won't notice much. The fronts provide most of the braking power.

I agree with Graham. I've used Akebono's on two cars now. No dust and I think less brake fade on my 2.5 ton Cl600. And when it comes to brakes, cost is no consideration for me but safety is.

Recommend using Textar brake pads ... front and rear. Genuine MB brake pads and Textar brake pads are softer than some because they are designed to stop the vehicle if the power assist is lost for some reason. It's not that the design engineers like dirty wheels.

I understand the easiest "best" upgrade for the W123 is to go for W126 vented front discs and calipers (wider than standard W123).
Other than that a wacky racers style boat anchor might help in a panic... |

I understand that ~ I was just hoping for less dust and maybe longer life . |
