Help : Economy indicator not working

Hi all,
I took my car to the mechanic for routine service. The car came back all functioning except the Economy indiactor that doesnt move anymore.

Q: I would like to know what i shld chk for under the hood or wherever pls. I would not like to take the car back to the mechanic..

On our 560 the economy gauge is operated by a vacuum line from the instrument panel to (I think) the EZL. Look for a loose vacuum fitting under the hood, perhaps near the left fender, depending on the layout of your engine compartment. If not at that end, it may have popped off at the back of the guage, pull the cluster and have a look.

I was wrong...

Looked last night, but couldn't access the the site to post. Vacuum comes from the manifold, and likely enters the cabin on the driver's side near the fuse box. Sorry for the bad info.

If it's the vaccum line that came off, the engine will show some signs of refusing to shut down when you turn the ignition off. The engine will still try to run for few seconds and then 'die' (although it's already shut down). Check for the vacuum line between the aircleaner and the upper part of the firewall, quite easy to find.

Good luck, Frank

Gas engine... key off will kill ignition istantly; vacuum or no vacuum. You're thinking diesels (which don't have the "economy" (vacuum) gauge). ;)

Resolved!!!

Thanks guys for all your comments .I have solved the riddle.

I had earlier noticed a hissing sound while driving , all along i thot it was the wind blowing thru the small aperture i leave open with my door windows whilst driving. So i parked the car in my garage one evening so as to check for the vacuum valve you guys spoke about and found out that with the engine idling away, the hissing sound continued just behind the Fuse box area . On searching the area i found a tube blowing air had come loose . Picked it up and searched the area for the most likely place to stick it in and saw a kinda y-tubing going all the way in to dash console in the car. So i just stuck the tube back in to the y-shaped tube and voila! My indicator starts working again.

once again you guys have proved very helpful. Thanks
