1991 300CE 24 valve questions- new owner

(I'm asking for a friend in Australia...)

He obtained this car from a trade with a friend. It does not have the original fuel distributor, ignition module, and ECU's that would have gone with this M104 engine.

What should the part numbers should be for all three?

Can he substitute parts off of an M103 motor (Fuel distributor, ECU's, injectors, ignition module) ?

Thanks.

The ignition module itself will be 3-4-maybe even $500 used if you can find one!

If you can get the VIN someone who has access to the Mercedes EPC can get you the correct part numbers for that specific car.

Got this info from my 300CE-24:

Ignition Control Unit: A0125452032 (Bosch 0227400738 - backwards compat.) or: A0125452132 (Siemens EZ0051 5WK6 K30575HR1 - backwards compat.)
Installed: A0105459532 (Bosch: 0027 400 736)

Fuel Distributor: A0000742813 Bosch 0 438 101 044 Bosch F 026 TX2 036

CONTROL UNITS:
MAS: A0115458332 (MotorAggregateSteurung Optional with A0125454832.
MSG Control Unit (5 speed): A0125450032
ABS Control Unit: A0055455132
ASR Control Unit: A0105457832

Regarding using M103 parts:

I have seen an M103 run with my M104 (as above) fuel distributor. It was only in the garage for a test so no idea how it might have performed longer term. It started and it idled and revved.

Injectors, no. The M103 injectors I have are not the same and don't have the same threads.

Other ECUs. Very doubtful, unless all the peripherals were changed. Easier to get replacement bits for the M104.

Ignition module: I have heard of people who have made this work but I've no idea how or if performance degrades.

If your friend has a 300-24 in good, rust-free condition, install the original parts. Most are available quite cheaply on the internet; just Google the part numbers or go to ebay.de .uk etc.

The ignition module, or EZL, is rare and expensive. Expect to pay €500+. And when you've got it working, start searching for a replacement!!!

Er, that's it.

Bonne chance.

Thanks for all the info. I've passed it on to my buddy in Australia.

300 24v ECU's and EZL's are super expensive in Australia. (or made from unobtainium)
Your friend will be best off looking for the parts overseas.
