W201 Wood Shift Surround - Hack for Broken Tabs

I finally got tired of sticking my fingers in the slots to roll the windows up and down. My only concern with this fix is if the metal were to touch the contacts and create a short if this fix were to fail on a button push. Added some electrical tape on the edges. Really only temporary until I can find a proper one.

The metal is a cut up motorcycle license plate. Tin snips worked easily.

Very creative. I just used a few dabs of glue from a glue gun. If the switch fails, it makes it easier to just peel the glue blot off.

I tried that same thing with black industrial glue sticks for body work. Also tried other glues. Everything seems too hold until it gets really hot in the summer. This one has frustrated me for years.

Shoe Goo would probably do it but you may never get the switch back off.

Very small dab of the steel jb weld just on the edge. Harden with a heat gun to fix into place then let it cure. If you need to get the switch off, a small flat head or razor should work to pry it off. I did have the issue with the glue in the summer, but on top of the glue gun, I use a small bit of super glue, which I do not recommend. It works great, but I went through 2 switches because it ran and jammed up the switch. By the way, glad to see you still have the 201, hadn't seen you on here in a while.

Ya it sat in the driveway for a while. I tried to sell it but just kept coming across car flippers. I figured I'd get it fixed enough to get it inspected. Got pulled back in.

I managed to get it idling perfectly a few years ago. Still does. Looks like this car is mine.
