KL15 should supply switched power to the ECM. Some ECM's will read ripple current to determine RPM. Not sure what other communication could take place.

Company refusing to send a call tag or pick-up tag to ship alt' back. Wanting me to pay freight and them then perhaps denying they received it !?

They are quoting 'Small Print.'

Not saying they would, but don't know the integrity of this company.

Here's my reply ........

"So....your equipment blows a $425.00 rear SAM on the vehicle and I pay to ship your faulty part at my cost...? ..regardless of your small print.

I don't think so. Every wholesale or retail company I have bought parts from that have failed to perform...ie: "Merchantable Goods"
have all sent a pick-up tag in the mail to ship via DHL, FedEx, UPS etc.

I have no alternative than to revise my opinion of your company and address my concerns to the 71,000 technicians on the forum at https://www.iatn.net/ and here, where you can read my post to the Mercedes Tech Help forum..... '99 S500. Altanator Disaster. FYI.

Scenario : I buy several defective parts from you and I have to pay to have them returned, I would be out of pocket several hundred dollars and still have a vehicle off the road.

I seem to remember your saying "We will do everything to make it right" or similar.

Your call........ "

Hate to say it but this confirms many of my dealings with Sleezebayers. Besides quality issues, several of the Sleezebayers I've dealt with refused to properly package the product(s) prior to shipment. Two pieces of newspaper placed in a used beat up box sealed with the cheapest packing tape they could find. Item(s) arrived damaged, I complained and they copped an attitude.

At least Amazon stands behind their products, not so with Sleezebay.

Well....Amazon it is from now on. I'm going to swallow this $$$$ alt' and open it up and see what kind of problem caused the high surge replacing the BATT- clamp.

What's the betting the diodes are open both ways ?

I'd take a vid of you boxing the alt up and use some sort of security tape / unique markings to show that the box was unopened between the time you boxed it and shipped it.

Take another vid at the shipping depot showing the same unique markings. Get delivery confirmation and send it off. Send the vid / pics to the vendor and have them compare / take pics of the unique markings before they open the box.

Apparently the alt co miss speced the part. However there are people that don't diagnose properly / damage goods / have other problems so the alt co is correct in waiting for the part to arrive at their location for inspection.

There are even people that fake failures under warranty so they can have a fresh part every year or so. Like this guy: What causes this to happen to a distributor cap? see posts 19 , 21 , 23, 24, 26 , 27

A few posts below outline what he is doing.

It's not lasting a year, I just replace it yearly just because it's free and it only takes me 5 mins. I do a lot of preventative maintenance on my car so a lot of parts that are common wear items rarely get worn down to the point of failure. Reason I do this is for peace of mind, I have the time to do it, and most of the replacements are free, I.e. Alternator/voltage regulator, spark plug wires, brakes, etc.

97 SL320:
You are committing "insurance" fraud, and making it more difficult for those with legitimate failed parts to be taken care of. Read the actual warranty and see if it states that returning good parts that you think might fail in the future is covered.

lsmalley:
I also put about 25k miles a year on my car, which are not all highway miles, but that's besides the point. I've experienced having to pay for things during an unexpected breakdown or not having a vehicle because a part failed on a Friday night which left me without a car to get to work the following Monday and Tuesday. So I really don't think of it in terms of fraud. Especially when a voltage regulator goes out and I'm being told that it is "built into" the alternator and the entire unit must be replaced as a whole, while I'm holding the failed regulator in my hand. Anyways, I have had some self-induced issues with my car however I do not believe this is one of them.

Well, I do. I have more integrity than that.

As I mentioned, I'm going to dismantle the alt' and see if I can't find out why the back feed into the instrument cluster and why it 'POOFED' the rear SAM.

Thanks for the heads up 97 on video tapping the shipping procedure. I'll remember that....however, I don't think Rareelectrical company is that kind of place to rely heavily on honesty.....I could be wrong

I shall make a formal complaint to eBay about them. ...or not.

I'll let you all know what I find......stand by for news and....the rest of the story.

I wanted to clarify my statement; Amazon.com handles products from many third party sellers. That said, Amazon stands behind products that are sold on their web site. I can't say the same about Sleezebay though.

It appears that according to Sleezebay, if they show that you received the product and money changed hands, all is well. They don't seem to give a rip if the product arrives damaged or doesn't function/work as represented in the Sleezebay listing.

Of course peachparts is a go to source for quality mercedes benz parts.

More info: Friday 23rd Dec 2016.

Just back after a stop/start road test covering 117 miles.
Fuel MPG at 24.6.
Cluster reports ''No Malfunctions.''
Drives great now the throttle seems to have learned what to do. Was a delayed throttle response of 1.5 seconds from stand still.

I can Command Shift all gears up and down, so trans' working okay and logged no codes.

I still cannot communicate with the engine ECU. Tried all three of my scanners and tried Generic OBDII with each one. Still ''no comm.'' or ''ERROR''

X431 Launch. MB II from iCarsoft and my old Snap-On brick with Global cartridge.

Being as I had 'no comm' originally, I removed the ECU and opened it up to find water corrosion on the mother board just below the coding chip..

ECU TECH installed the chip in a used ECU and I was finally able to get the engine to start. (You can read about that saga in earlier posts.)

Had a E3e2 code for left rear lamp cluster .I used Stabilant 22 on all electrical pins and bulb socket and part way through the test drive cluster warning went out for ''Left Rear Substitute bulb.'' I got out and sure enough both rear running lamps where on.

What puzzles me most is why OBDII is not readable?. I thought the 'new' ECU would have fixed that.

Say...Is the Merc' guru Mr Steve Brotherton about still ? May be he has some answers 'cos I'm all used up ! ..and if anyone thinks of anything, chime in, I'll consider anything at this point.

FYI. I called Chris at Euro Sport in Norman and he told me he was getting a Mercedes scanner for next week. His Mercedes tech was off this week anyway. I'm tentatively booked in next week for the tech to run through a learning curve on the S500.
