Transmission flush.

I've purchased a Topsider vacuum pump for easier oil changes. I'm thinking of using it to flush the transmission: extract the old ATF, fill it up with fresh ATF and run it it for a couple of hundred miles, extract it again and replace the ATF and filter. Good idea?

why do that when you can drain the pan and torque convertor? 7 qts every 30k. a little harder but far better. good luck, chuck.

Jorn, porkface has the right approach. No sense using 4 or 5 quarts of ATF for only a couple of hundred miles. If you use the Topsider to remove ATF from the transmission pan I would be interested to hear how much ATF remains in the pan when you remove the drain plug. As you are aware dropping the pan and changing the filter is the messy part.

When draining the torque converter only turn the engine CW to locate the drain plug.

I use a suction tank to change the oil in the transmission pan at every oil change. On level ground, I can draw two quarts through the dipstick. This is pretty much all there is. I obviously cant drain the torque converter. But on my 190dt, there's no drain in the converter anyway. At long intervals, I do drop the pan to change the filter.

For **** and giggles I will use the TopSider and then finish it the correct way.
