560 SEL GAS ENGINE HARD TO START - INJECTOR SEALS?

I have an 87 560 sel. 17 years now, 415,000 miles. Great car. Gas engine.

Past 4 months, the car has been harder and harder to start (5-7 sec cranking), but once started, runs ok. If it sits for 10 minutes or more, it becomes hard to start. Used to start ok in the morning, but now that's hard too.

Few months ago, as the engine was running (little rough), mechanic squirted degreaser near injector banks, and it smoothed out. He tweaked the fuel mix to smooth it out, but startup is still the problem.

We surmise that the injector seals are bad, fuel drains back to low spot. Injectors replaced 3-4 years ago (2nd replacement).

I want to replace seals the seals and needed plastic/rubber parts. Any one give me links or directions, it would be appreciated. thanks.

only way to test is connect fuel gauge to see if fuel pressure is fast drop or slow, check easy stuff first , , check for external leaks , Eha, check fuel pressure regulator , remove vacuum line see if gas entering small line, , check fuel accumulator at pumps area, pinch off line so tank dosent get return flow, if it then starts replace , can almost guarantee if its , original its bleeding off

thanks for advice

nulu, alabbasi,

ty for the suggestions.

accumulator would be simple answer but i mentioned that the engine was running rough, and my mechanic quick-sprayed degreaser along each bank of injectors. when he did that, the idle was smooth.

based on the symptoms and the temporary cure, he concluded that it was injector seals, slowly breaking the vacuum when engine is off. Could be one, or the other, or both/all.

thoughts?

degreaser or carb cleaner? Your two symptoms may not be related.

If he sprayed carb cleaner around the injectors that he introduced fuel which would fix both symptoms as squirting carb cleaner into the intake will get the engine running and let the engine run long enough for the fuel pump to build up fuel pressure.

These engines are vacuum sensitive. The best way to check for vacuum leaks is with a smoke machine.

Again, idle smoothness and startup are likely to be two different issues. The startup problem is likely to be caused by lack of fuel pressure hence accumulator.
