Help gas leak on ML. Look like from above the tank
Hay guys. Help!
I notice this weekend after getting home I smell gas coming from the driver rear wheel area. I don't smell any gas from the cabin (inside the car) nor the trunk area (at lease it is not obvious). I confirm the smell of gas today again and look under the ML and saw signs of gas leak coming from the top of the gas tank (picture attached). It was wet to the touch when I got home but dried a few minutes later. So it look like it is leaking when then car is running. Any ideas??? To me it seem like fuel pump, fuel line from above the tank. But the real questions is how do you access that area. Do you have to drop the tank. p.s. I have not done any work on the fuel system (like fuel pump change, fuel filter ect). I have fill the tank but that was 1/4 tank ago.

Some vehicles, you pull up carpet in back, and theres a plate to acess pump. If over 145000 miles just put new pump in,make sure its a good one.

Check the fuel filter and plastic line. Access is from the left rear wheel well........the pump is accessed by removing the rear seat and lifting the floor carpet.

pull the left rear wheel off and then the plastic splash panel and you will be able to see the fuel filter and hoses. hoses are plastic and can be replaced without removing tank just not that easy to get to. open left rear door pull back carpet under rear seat and you will find an access panel glued to floor pull the cover up carefully not to bend then you can see the other end of fuel hoses replace all. and dont forget to staighten the cover under the rear seat before you try to glue it back on

O.k. tried to find out where the leak is comming from what next
hello,
I tried to find out where the leak is coming from. Remember I posted a pic last time. Well I remove the tire and the plastic wheel well cover. While running the engine I look for leaks. I can not see any of the hose leaking around the filter and I place a camera in the pump area not obvious leaks seen but I smell gas. So I keep the running while checking for leaks. Again none obvious leaks around the filter or pump area. But after 20 minutes I notice gas dripping from the red circle area 1 and area 2. Dripping down the side from the top of the tank. This is a big leak I would think if it was leaking from the pump or filter area I would notice either by touch or visual from the camera. where else could I be looking. From the diagram there is a grove in the middle top of the tank. I think that grove is channeling the gas. Does the gas line run through that grove?? The diagram shows a tube in the grove what is that for??? Can a bad filter causing a leak from some vent? And replacing the filter will solve my problem???

Found the leak One of the house on the fuel pump is leaking
Found the leak one of the house on top of the fuel pump is leaking. Picture posted. Can you see the gas this is after not starting or running the ml overnight.
The top house is leaking at the connection. I think it is the return (someone correct me if I am wrong)? It wiggles up and down (the other does not). I tried to connect and disconnect it and still wiggles up and down and leaks. Can't see if it has a o-right inside. Maybe it is worn out? Anyone know if I can just replace the o-rights?

O.K. bad news. Now what??? Replaced all the houses and the filter. Still leak
O.k. Bad news. I replaced all the house and the filter but still leak at the same place.
It is leaking at the return house (smaller house) connection at the fuel pump. Same place it was leaking. I looked very carefully (as carefully as I can) at the steam from the fuel pump. It does not appears to be damage. Any ideas?? The only things I can think of is replace the fuel pump (since I already replaced all the houses). 2 Try a larger o-ring on the house connection. 3. Connect the pump to the filter using convention fuel lines and house clamps. What does you guys think? Any other ideas.

I think you should replace the fuel pump assembly.
