Help!
I was experiencing loud clanking and bumping when shifting from R to D and visa versa. I diagnosed the problem to the front flex disk and I just got finished replacing it. The clanking sound is gone, but the bump still remains when driving and letting off the pedal and when shifting. The back flex disc appears to be fine, but I am not positive. Also, I think I remember reading something about a part in the middle of the driveshaft. Could that be my problem? If so, what is it called and how do I go about installing it?

how are your engine/tranny mounts? all in good shape?
Couldn't a bad mount cause extra movement when accelerating etc of the tranny etc? At the cost of the flex discs, the rear shouldn't be a big deal to change regardless. I had both of mine done due to slight cracking in them, not that I notice a difference, but it gives me peace of mind knowing I can track their mileage now.. Alon |
Inspect the engine, tranny and differential mounts real good and replace as necessary. Oil on them makes them deteriorate over the years.

The rear differential mounts cause quite a thunk when shot. They are the two round mounts off the differential mounted into the subframe about a foot apart.

I am going to order a rear flex disc and a driveshaft bushing tonight. Could that help? Anything else I should order or try?

Fwiw, I had the same noise you have, and it was my rear differential mounts.
