Xenon dash lights!

Does anyone have the xenon dash lights installed in there car! I am thinking about purchasing these but I am not sure if I will like them. I dont want to buy them if their gonna give me headache . Thanks for you help!

I wouldn't want to tax the system anymore than it really is. Plus the color of the light with my creme gauges really matches all the rest of the lights behind the switches and all.

Dash bulbs

Brandon,
here is the scoop on the bulbs for your dash. They use typical 194 base bulbs. Euro w3w are OEM...they are a 3 watt bulb a 194 bulb is not much more than 3 watts if any. If you need more light due to the poor lighting at night common to so many MB pre 95 then pull your cluster enough to get at teh two illuminating bulbs at teh top and pop in two W5W bulbs...same base and size, but 5watts...little more drain but not much and lots more light. If you really want to see at night I can work you up a set of custom white face gauges. These and W5W bulbs and you will think you were driving a new AMG model with all the light you get. Plus the rheostat/ dimmer allows you to set teh light level at any level you want instead on having to put it at full all the time just to see. I have tried all colors of 194's and even tinting W5W bulbs, nothig seems to really work to get a color or more light. The best is W5W bulbs and white faces. I am still looking for a good decent Xenon 5watt 194 base bulb. It would be the best, but I do not think it exists. the 194 Xenons at the parts stores are blue/white alright but they put off less light and make it even hard to see the dash with white face gauges, Iv'e tried it.
I've even tried hi intensity LED bulbs, no luck there either, wrong type of light pattern, you get hot spots and dead spots in your lighting pattern. Use W5W and let me know if you are interested in a custom set of gauges to fix the night vision problem forever.

How much is the AMG cluster background? thats cool

crhenkel 05-23-2002 01:39 PM

Can do AMG , Brabus, Lorsiner, Sportline, Euro, and other logos and styles of faces. Needles get a recoloring to match too.
Email me at crhenkel@aol.com
Complete install and refurbish is almost always under $150.

Hi,
Are the gauges recalibrated once after the needles are removed to install the white face plates?
They look great!
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
yes the gauges will read correctly after the install work is done. We put the needles back where they belong and recalibration is them. usually it is about a 5-8 business day turn around...can be faster is we coordinate ahead of time with shipping and work schedule.

Wow, quick response thanks. I will put it on my list of things to do. I do have another sorta related question, I have a fluky gas gauge and I know it is not the sender, do you know of any places that can repair them?
Thanks,
Dan

crhenkel 05-30-2003 10:58 AM

Sure it is not the sender...

I have seen many fuel gauges go "flunky" and usually it is the sender. I'll trust you on this one. I actually have a "flunky" gauge on my 190E right now and I am ignoring it till I can get the nerve to fork out the cash for hte new sender cause mine is going bad. The contacts corrode over tiem and you get an intermittent signal which makes the needle wiggle and bounce around. IN ANY CASE....
Ya, there are a few places that can do a repair, I will have to look them up again...I used to do it, but the time and effort and the sucess rate we were seeing was not good enough to continue.
I would personally recommend calling Potomac German Auto Parts to see if Pat can get you a good salvage part. They will just sell you the right portion of the cluster that has the fuel and oil pressure gauge in it and they are a fair deal.
