same thing happened on my dads 1994 SL. Tranny had to be rebuilt. Reverse band broke, and clutches were very worn.

We are taking the tranny out of a S500 today with very little reverse. I was hoping to take a picture of the mess in the pan but someone just serviced the thing.

I'll take a picture of the clutches when we get it apart (if I get time).

It will be around 1500 plus tax. It actually might get a little higher as the flex disc came out in pieces. The simple reseal/reclutch overhaul comes out to 1500, installed, filled, and adjusted.

We got busy today and only got the unit out and cleaned, so no pictures yet.

had exactly the same problem with my 1993 sel. tranny replacement cost $2300. you could probably rebuild for $1500 or so.

Steve,

So you know the part number to the reverse band, clutches, flex disks? I can't seem to find it in my elctronic parts catalog the one they use at the dealership.

No reverse band for any of the two cars you list. No rev band in any 722.3,4,5 and 6 trannies, only in 722.0, 1, and 2 trannies.

The parts all are on the EPC and the driveshaft components are in group 41.
