2000 S500 W220 Driver'side window - express up not working

I just bought a 2000 S500 to replace my totalled 1997 S500. It has 99,000 miles and is in great shape. Of course, as with any used car, it has certain issues.

The driver's side window is not working right. It expresses down ok but stops about 5 inches from the bottom. I can press the switch and manually lower it rest of the way but it will not express up at all, though I can hold the switch and it will go up ok.

I've tried the reset procedure multiple times but to no avail. The other 3 windows and the sunroof express fine.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be at fault?

Thanks

Either the window motor with its integrated hall sensor that tracks position or the left front door control module. Should be a relatively easy diagnosis with an SDS.

you didn't mention what reset procedure you tried. was it fully closed and then continue holding the up button for another several seconds until you hear a faint click?

Reset procedure used

I've been starting by lowering the window first, both with the first detent of the switch and the second detent and holding the switch for 5 econds then 10 seconds but I don'the hear a click. I then raise the window to the top, again I've tried using both the first and second detent of the switch and holding it for 5 seconds then 10 seconds but I don't hear a click at top either and neither way has reset the window successfully.

Also, I'm sorry to be dense but what is SDS?

Update

My local dealer wants to charge me $250 for a scan so I decided I could throw a few parts at it for a lot less. I started with a good $50 door control module. However, when I disassembled the panel I noticed there was a 2-wire connector that was not connected. There is a socket on the module for a 2 wire connector but it's a slightly different shape and the loose connector won't fit, (see photo below).

I know the door panel is wrong as it's a different color than the rest and the inner door pull is a different shape. I've been looking for one since I got the car but haven't been able to locate one the right color.

Is it possible the connector that isn't connected could be what is keeping the driver door window from working correctly?

I also discovered that the windows will not roll down using the remote. Is this probably part of the same problem?

Finally, is there someone in northern Illinois that could do an SDS for me at a more reasonable price?

Thanks!

More info

Before I bought the car I ran a carfax and it did not show any accidents. Unfortunately yesterday I spoke with the guy I bought it from who talked to the dealer he bought it from and found out the car had been hit and the driver door got replaced, apparently with a door from a later W220.

There must be something in the replaced door that isn"t compatible, but what? So far I can' t find any electrical component that isn't compatible throughout the w220 range.

bolomiester, a more responsible dealer would have made sure the wiring connections were compatible, or modified them so all the window features worked properly. Unfortunately many businesses today are so focused on making money that they settle for, and accept, slipshod work. The dealer should have disclosed to the buyer, when he purchased the car, that the driver's door had been replaced. As far as I know our local MB dealer auctions pre-owned cars with previous body damage to avoid complaints from their customers.
